‘Submission’ is a documentary that discusses a novel of the same name by the French author Michel Houellebecq. The book was published in January of 2015 and instantly became a bestseller in France, Germany and Italy.

The political satire, imagines a situation in which a Muslim party upholding traditionalist and patriarchal values is able to win the 2022 presidential election in France with the support of the Socialist Party. The novel generated controversy and criticism for its portrayal of Islam, and drew an unusual amount of attention especially as it was coincidentally released on the same day as the Charlie Hebdo shooting. The provocative nature of the novel also made French novelist Emmanuel Carrère compare this novel to George Orwell's 1984.
