‘Escape to death’ investigates the reasons behind the phenomenon of suicide deaths of maids in Lebanon, and explores whether these deaths are in fact suicide or if they constitute to manslaughter or murder.

The film digs deeper into the maid/sponsor relationship with particular focus on the complaints’ procedure, the legal processes surrounding incidents of suicide, and the existing rampant racism within the Lebanese society.

Testimonies of numerous maids showcased sexual harassment, and torture by employees towards the maids, with two tragic deaths occurring throughout the filming of the documentary as a result of a suicide incident and a second due to severe beating by the employer. These incidents posed the question of whether the Lebanese judiciary system takes these cases seriously or whether they are complicit in the whole process?
